RB Leipzig inform Manchester United that Timo Werner will not be allowed to leave the club in the near future.

Manchester United have been informed by RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche that Timo Werner will not be allowed to leave the club in the near future.

The Red Devils have reportedly identified Werner as a key target for the January transfer window, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to give his team a boost in the final third of the field.

However, Krosche has been quoted as saying by Bild: "Timo just extended his contract with us recently, and we're not thinking about letting him go at all."

Werner, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, has scored 13 times in 15 appearances for Leipzig this season, including three goals in Saturday's 8-0 win over Mainz 05.

The 23-year-old was strongly linked with a move away from the Red Bull Arena during the summer transfer window before ultimately signing a new deal which runs until June 2023.

United allowed both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to leave over the summer without signing replacements and have struggled to produce a steady flow of goals in the early stages of the 2019-20 campaign.
