Manchester United 'still hopeful of David de Gea deal'

Manchester United remain hopeful that David de Gea will sign a new long-term deal at the club, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly still hopeful that David de Gea will sign a new long-term deal at the club.

As it stands, De Gea's contract with United will expire next summer, meaning that the Spain international would be free to discuss terms with foreign clubs at the start of January 2020.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have both been linked with summer swoops for the stopper, although it is thought that the pair have now cooled their interest with little over a month until the start of the new Premier League campaign.

According to The Guardian, United have not given up hope that the 28-year-old will sign a new contract. That said, the two parties are still said to be 'some distance from an agreement'.

The Red Devils goalkeeper is reportedly holding off on signing fresh teams due to United's struggles in recent seasons, while his wage demands are also believed to be an issue.

De Gea recently lost his position as Spain's number one goalkeeper to Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga after a disappointing 2018 World Cup and an inconsistent 2018-19 campaign at club level.
