Manchester United's Under-21s battle back for draw against Chelsea

Manchester United duo Ashley Young and Phil Jones make their returns from injury during an Under-21 game against Chelsea, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

A second-half strike from James Weir earned Manchester United's Under-21 side a 1-1 draw from their encounter against Chelsea's second string at Old Trafford this evening.

The hosts were boosted by the inclusion in the starting lineup of senior players Ashley Young and Phil Jones, neither of whom have represented the first team since January because of injuries.

However, despite that experience boost, the Red Devils fell behind midway through the first half.

Paddy McNair was adjudged to have fouled Josimar Quintero 25 yards from goal and Kasey Palmer fired the resultant free kick beyond the reach of United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Weir ensured that the spoils would be shared in the 61st minute, though, when his deflected effort got the better of Mitchell Beeney in the Chelsea goal.

As the match entered stoppage time, Young had a good opportunity to seal the victory for United, but he planted his header from six yards out straight at Beeney.
