Van Gaal reiterates desire for United stay

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has reiterated his desire to remain at the club after his side wrapped up their Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

The Dutchman, who still has one year remaining on his contract, has been linked with the Old Trafford exit after failing to secure Champions League football for next season.

However, Van Gaal was quick to point out that United can still salvage something from their campaign when they take on Crystal Palace in this weekend's FA Cup final and reaffirmed his commitment to seeing out his contract.

"We didn't reach our aim. We have to qualify for the Champions League. We have still the FA Cup final to go. Everyone has to make up his mind at how we have done this season at that time," he told BBC Sport.

"I can only say I have a contract of three years and I want to fulfil that. The transition period is not over yet. I am still the manager."

Reports suggest that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be appointed as Van Gaal's successor if the Red Devils choose to part company with the Dutch coach.
