Marcus Rashford: 'Cristiano Ronaldo was my inspiration'

Rashford: 'Ronaldo was my inspiration'

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has said that he is driven to try to become a success at Old Trafford by the mindset of Cristiano Ronaldo.

In six years at United, Ronaldo established himself as one of the best players in the world before making a big-money switch to Real Madrid, where he has continued to progress into one of the greatest to play the sport.

Rashford was only 11 when Ronaldo departed for Spain but he has said that the Portuguese star has left a legacy at the Premier League outfit.

The 18-year-old told Inside United: "When Cristiano Ronaldo came to United, he was the one who everyone looked up to. The thing that impressed me the most was the fact he was only young when he came into the side and he wanted to be the best player in the side.

"He worked hard every single day, you saw him in the gym every single day and the results came on the pitch. He openly wanted to be the best player in the world.

"You have to have an approach like that - all the best players in the world do. It's not arrogance or anything like that, it's the mindset you need to achieve things."

Rashford will make his first start of the season against Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night.
