Paul Pogba: 'Winning title will prove I'm world's best player'

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba hopes to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford in his first season back at the club by helping his side to the league title.

Paul Pogba has insisted that the only way he can prove his worth as the world's best player is to help Manchester United to the Premier League title this season.

The France international rejoined the Red Devils during the summer in a world-record deal, setting the club back an initial £89m to sign a player that they let go for a minimal fee four years ago.

Pogba claims that he had no doubts about making a switch back to Old Trafford, despite drawn-out speculation that lasted for months, and the 23-year-old is now looking to make an instant impact.

"I came back because I wanted to and United showed that they wanted me back," the Manchester Evening News quotes him as saying. "We have a good team who wants to win they league again with a big manager, top players and a new team.

"My ambition is always to be number one, always be the best. To be the best is to win the league - that is the objective of everyone. That's what we want to do."

Pogba has featured in United's last two games - a 2-0 win over Southampton and a late 1-0 triumph against Hull City last time out.
