Manchester United 'turn down chance to sign Jamie Vardy'

Manchester United reportedly turn down the chance to sign Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who is also wanted by Arsenal.

Manchester United have turned down the chance to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester City this summer, according to reports.

Vardy was named the FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Year last season after scoring 24 goals to fire the Foxes to their first ever top-flight title.

The 29-year-old has previously insisted that he is happy to stay at the club, although reports emerged earlier today claiming that Arsenal have triggered a £20m release clause in his contract.

That clause is only available to teams who qualified for the Champions League, but Sky Sports News claims that United were also considering a move for the striker this summer.

However, the report goes on to state that new United manager Jose Mourinho only wants to sign one striker this summer, with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Karim Benzema being linked to the club.

Mourinho is also thought to be keen on giving Marcus Rashford a chance in the first team following the 18-year-old's breakthrough during the closing months of the season.

Vardy will be part of the England squad that will travel to France for Euro 2016 this summer.
