Manchester United 'deny plans to offer Louis van Gaal director of football role'

Manchester United reportedly have no plans to make Louis van Gaal director of football, amid rumours that he would move jobs to make room for Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United are reportedly not planning to offer current manager Louis van Gaal a role as director of football.

It was reported on Friday that United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is keen to keep the Dutchman at Old Trafford in a different capacity if he is relieved of his managerial duties this summer.

It has been claimed that Van Gaal could become director of football, with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho replacing the 64-year-old as manager.

However, according to Sky Sports News, the English giants have no intention of creating such a role.

Mourinho, who has been out of work since getting sacked by Chelsea in December, has been heavily linked with the Old Trafford hotseat for some time.

There have been conflicting reports regarding the Portuguese coach's potential move, but the latest is that the United hierarchy will offer him the job should Van Gaal leave at the end of the season.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, who has one year remaining on his contract, could end this season with silverware as United take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday at Wembley.
