Hello and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of the Premier League contest between Sunderland and Manchester United.

Just 13 games of the season remain and Sunderland welcome top-four hopefuls United lying second from bottom and four points from safety having failed to win in four games.

However, the Black Cats pulled off a late fightback to earn a point at Liverpool last weekend and might fancy their chances against a United side struggling to keep pace with the those above them.

Join us for all of the action from the Stadium of Light below.

11.47amMorning all! It's been a big week for both of these clubs, but before we dive deeper into what's been going on, let's bring you the breaking team news from the Stadium of Light...

11.50amSUNDERLAND XI: Mannone; Yedlin, O'Shea, Kone, Van Aanholt; Kirchhoff, Cattermole, M'Vila; Khazri, N'Doye, Defoe
Subs: Brown, Rodwell, Borini, Matthews, Pickford, Toivonen, Honeyman

11.53amMAN UTD XI: De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson; Schneiderlin, Carrick; Lingard, Mata, Martial; Rooney
Subs: Romero, Love, Weir, Pereira, Herrera, Memphis, Keane

11.56amSam Allardyce makes two changes to the Sunderland team that started at Anfield last weekend, DeAndre Yedlin and Dame N'Doye coming in for Billy Jones and Duncan Watmore. Jones is out altogether with a hip injury, while N'Doye makes his first Black Cats start in attack alongside key man Jermain Defoe, who passed a late fitness test to play today.

11.59amThere's also a first home start for January signing Wahbi Khazri on the wing, while Fabio Borini is back in the squad having missed out last weekend through illness. The latter is joined on the bench by youngster George Honeyman, who is in the senior squad for the first time this season.

12.02pmOne man not in the squad is Adam Johnson, who as I'm sure you're aware has been on trial this week for two counts of sexual activity with a child. The winger was sacked by Sunderland earlier this week, so he is a man now without a club.

12.05pmAs for United, Louis van Gaal has made just one change from the 1-1 draw at Chelsea, with Morgan Schneiderlin taking Marouane Fellaini's place alongside Michael Carrick in midfield. Van Gaal has just revealed to BT Sport that Fellaini is getting a rest today having played a lot of football recently.

12.08pmClick here to see what the Premier League table looks like after 25 rounds of the season. United are fifth and a win today would move them within three points of the top four. Neighbours Man City are the team just above them and they play second-placed Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow, along with other top-four sides Arsenal and Leicester playing each other, so United will close the gap this weekend if they win, whatever happens tomorrow.

12.11pmVan Gaal admitted this week that he was unsure of his future at United if they do not qualify for the Champions League, but insisted that results elsewhere are not his concern: "We don't have to look to our competitors, you have to win your own matches first, and that's also why we were so frustrated that we lost two points against at Chelsea."

12.14pmLike Sunderland's Honeyman, United have a fresh face in their squad today

12.16pmLove is joined on the bench by Memphis Depay, who turns 22 today. So much was expected of the Dutchman following his arrival last summer, but he has had a disappointing campaign and not started in the league since Boxing Day.

12.19pmJesse Lingard is ahead of Memphis in the pecking order at the moment and he scored a cracking goal at Stamford Bridge last week before Diego Costa struck late on to deny United three points and their third win in four league games.

12.22pmSunderland, meanwhile, are without a win in four league games, but you have to say that they've had a tough run of games, facing Tottenham, Bournemouth, Man City and Liverpool in that time. Now they host United before going to sixth-placed West Ham next week. Things will ease up, but the gap to safety could be too big to claw back by then 😬 A win this lunchtime would move them within a point of safety ahead of the others above them playing later today.

12.25pmH2H: Manchester United have only lost one of their previous 27 league meetings with Sunderland (W20, D6) and the Black Cats' only Premier League victory at home to United was a 2-1 win at Roker Park in March 1997.

12.27pm

12.30pmOne thing the visitors can probably count on today is a goal - Sunderland are on the longest current run without a clean sheet in the Premier League (11 games) - and in Wayne Rooney they have a man back in form. The United and England captain has been involved in as many Premier League goals in six games in 2016 (five goals, three assists), as he had in 33 games in 2015 (six goals, two assists).

12.32pmHowever, Sunderland also have an Englishman enjoying himself at the moment in Defoe, who took his goal superbly at Anfield last weekend to reach double figures in the Premier League this season. Can he keep the Black Cats up?

12.35pmPREDICTION: Okey doke, just 10 minutes until kickoff on Wearside. It's hard to imagine Sunderland getting another impressive result like last week, especially with United arguably playing their best football of the season at the moment - 2-0 to the visitors.

12.37pm

12.40pmThe two teams are ready and waiting in the tunnel and they will be led out by today's referee, who is Andre Marriner.

12.43pmHere's an ominous stat for Sunderland: The Black Cats have the worst record in the Premier League against teams in the top half of the table - they haven't won a game in 13 attempts (D2, L11).

0 minKICKOFF! Here we go then. Great atmosphere at the Stadium of Light as Sunderland go straight on the attack through Defoe before he is tackled.

2 minIt's a windy day in the North-East and at the moment it's dry, although earlier this morning there was heavy hailstorms that would play a part should they return in the next couple of hours or so.

2 minDarmian checks Van Aanholt's run down the left to win Sunderland a free kick in a good crossing position...

3 minGOAL! SUNDERLAND 1-0 MAN UTD (WAHBI KHAZRI)

3 minWhat a start! I was just about to write that I was looking forward to seeing Khazri play and he's made an impact after only two minutes on his home debut. It was his free kick from the left and Defoe tried to flick it on but completely missed it and somehow the ball bounced all the way through and in off the far post. Nightmare for United!

5 minThat's Sunderland's 31st goal of the season, which is just one fewer than United's total for the campaign. However, the Black Cats have the leakiest defence, so United should be confident of getting back into this. Rooney has just had a bouncing ball cleared in the area just as he was about to poke at goal.

8 minKirchhoff is dispossessed by Lingard, who injures himself in making the challenge, before Mata picks it up and looks for Rooney with a through-ball. It looks perfect, but Kone slides in to divert the ball back to Mannone.

9 minLingard took a real kick in the ankle when he made that tackle and hobbled out to the touchline to receive medical attention, but he's back on the field and seems fine to continue.

10 minHe also provided an assist on his Premier League debut last week. Decent start for the Tunisian in England!

11 minCLOSE! How has that not gone in?! Van Aanholt wins the ball back off Darmian high up the field and Defoe manages to gain possession in the box before bundling his way through on goal. Smalling gets back and puts off his fellow Englishman just as he was about to pull the trigger. Even so, that will go down as a missed chance for Defoe.

13 minFirst corner of the game goes United's way and it's headed out by Kirchhoff, who seems to be hobbling and that might be his match over.

15 minSUNDERLAND SUB: Kirchhoff can't continue. Looks like a hamstring problem. Jack Rodwell on in his place in midfield.

16 minMartial completely foxes Yedlin to open up space for a cross, but his low centre is cleared away well by O'Shea. The former United man has been excellent so far.

18 minVan Aanholt likes a goal and he runs onto a loose ball on the edge of the area but fails to make a good connection, dragging his effort way wide of the target.

20 minThe Sunderland left-back does look vulnerable when defending though. Darmian has got in behind several times already and just now failed to find Rooney with a cross.

23 minHas Allardyce unearth a gem that could help his side stay up?

26 min"Penalty!" scream the Sunderland players and Khazri in particular after his shot was blocked by Schneiderlin. The ball did hit the Frenchman's hand, but he was pulling his arm away from the ball. Never a penalty.

26 minMoments later Cattermole found a bit of space on the edge of the box and had a go himself, but dragged his half-volley wide of the far post. Sunderland doing well here.

28 minTight angle for Khazri, who instead of looking for a teammate arriving on the edge of the box goes for the spectacular and shoots high and wide.

31 minSHOT! United's first shot arrives after half an hour and it's a good effort from Mata, who receives a firm pass from Rooney and curls one first time straight at Mannone. Very good effort, but not quite directed well enough.

35 minWorrying signs here for United as Darmian collides with Khazri and lands awkwardly. That looks like a shoulder problem and Van Gaal might be forced into a change here.

38 minUNITED SUB: What a moment for Donald Love, who makes his Red Devils debut by replacing the Italian.

38 minBOOKING! First yellow card goes to Yedlin, who clearly dived to try to win a free kick.

39 minGOAL! SUNDERLAND 1-1 MAN UTD (ANTHONY MARTIAL)

39 minClassy finish! Mata's curling effort is pushed out by Mannone but Martial is alive and pounces on the loose ball, dinking above the sprawling Italian from an extremely narrow angle as the goalkeeper looked to recover. It would have been safer just to tip that out for a corner.

42 minSunderland will be gutted to concede like that, especially with half time just around the corner. They've played a good half but you can't give teams like United chances like that.

45 minLove looks just as keen as Darmian to bomb on down the right and it looks like Rooney is about to set him up for a great shooting opportunity, but Van Aanholt gets a toe to the through-ball to divert it behind the debutant.

45+1 minFOUR minutes added on at the end of the first half after those injuries to Lingard, Kirchhoff and Darmian.

45+2 minBrilliant hold-up play and then ball over the top by Defoe, but Rodwell is closed down and loops the ball out of play with Khazri waiting in the middle.

45+3 minSunderland finding some rhythm again, with Khazri feeding fellow left-sider Van Aanholt, whose cutback is met by De Gea before Defoe could reach it. Been a good half of footy, this.

45+5 minHALF-TIME: SUNDERLAND 1-1 MAN UTD

1.35pmAll square at the break then, with Martial's clever dinked finish in the 39th minute cancelling out the free kick from Wahbi Khazri that somehow bobbled past De Gea and in off the far post after just two minutes. Back soon for the second half!

1.48pmOkey doke. Second half at the Stadium of Light just moments away now. A reminder that both teams were forced into a first-half change, with Kirchhoff and Darmian replaced by Rodwell and Love.

46 minKICKOFF! The visitors get us back underway.

46 minBOOKING! Rooney is booked straight away for a cynical trip on Cattermole. By the way, O'Shea was also booked just before half time, so both he and Yedlin in the Sunderland defence need to be careful this half.

49 minSilly foul from Borthwick-Jackson as N'Doye was going nowhere down the touchline. Khazri free kick to come...

50 minO'Shea gets in front of Rooney and flicks it goalwards, but it smacks Rooney and replays show that the United captain's hand was high. It did not need to be there, but even so there was no distance between him and O'Shea so a penalty would have been harsh.

51 minUnited deal with the resulting corner and then have a chance on the break as Mata looks for Martial, but Khazri had tracked back well and intercepted the Spaniard's through-ball.

54 minCHANCE! Oh what a chance for Defoe! Love is shown up as he lets Van Aanholt in behind. Defoe gets across Blind to meet the Dutchman's cross and he had diverted it on goal until Blind gets back and makes a superb block. Saved a definite goal!

58 minBOOKING! Like Rooney earlier in the half, Mata brings down an opponent after losing the ball and Marriner quickly brandishes a yellow.

59 minBOOKING! M'Vila was chopped down by Mata and now the Frenchman is on the floor again after a late tackle from Carrick, who also goes into the book.

61 minCHANCE! Another great chance for Sunderland! M'Vila wins the ball off Carrick in midfield and Cattermole picks it up before feeding N'Doye, who was played onside by Smalling. De Gea sticks out a leg to keep out the debutant's effort, but there was a big gap at the near post he did not see.

63 minUNITED SUB: Change out wide for the visitors and they need someone to make an impact. Is birthday boy Memphis that man? He takes Lingard's place.

64 minLove gets away with one here after tripping Khazri, who had found a gap between two United defenders and was bearing down on goal. Free kick in a good position for Sunderland, who are well on top at the moment.

65 minSAVE! Khazri is playing so confidently at the moment and his curling free kick over the wall is held comfortably by De Gea. Not quite near enough the corner to really trouble United's star keeper.

68 minBLOCK! Memphis's cutback misses Rooney, but Mata is there and curls a shot towards goal that Rodwell does superbly to block. Are Sunderland going to regret all those missed chances?

70 minFabulous stuff from Van Aanholt and Khazri, who play a one-two-three-four down the left before the former's cross is overhit and goes out for a goal kick. They look like a mean duo down that Sunderland wing.

71 minSUNDERLAND SUB: Bit of a surprise here as Defoe is taken off and replaced by Borini. The Englishman just seemed to be struggling with a niggling injury the last few minutes and Allardyce understandably does not want to take any risks with his top scorer.

72 minSAVE! Another fine stop from De Gea as he arches his back to tip over Kone's audacious effort from a narrow angle. Great hit from the centre-back, who seemed to catch De Gea a little off-guard there.

73 minMata is given space to shoot from 25 yards and he decides to have a go, but it's easy for Mannone to collect down low. He's hardly known for unstoppable raspers from that range.

75 minBoth teams suddenly look really leggy and we still have 15 minutes to go. The two managers have one change left to make and it could make a real difference with some players out there looking knackered.

77 minRooney left all alone out wide to size up a cross and he floats one to the back post where Smalling's header is blocked out for a corner.

77 minBlind looks for centre-back partner Smalling at the back post, but the latter is eased away from the ball and Sunderland have a goal kick. BIG 15 minutes coming up.

80 minCHANCE! Borthwick-Jackson cleverly cuts inside Yedlin and cuts back for Memphis, who opens out his body quickly and curls tamely at Mannone. Much more accuracy and power needed to score from there.

82 minGOAL! SUNDERLAND 2-1 MAN UTD (LAMINE KONE)

82 minSunderland retake the lead! It's one January signing to another as Khazri's corner is powerfully met by Kone. Smalling lost his man and Kone was completely unchallenged to thump at goal, with neither De Gea or Martial on the line able to keep it out.

84 minRemember when they had the league's best defence and kept clean sheet after clean sheet?

85 minSUBS: Final changes from both teams, with Cattermole and Schneiderlin off for Toivonen and Keane. So United now have Rooney, Martial, Memphis, Mata and Keane all on the field!

87 minSHOT! Memphis twists and turns in the box before lashing at goal. Mannone is ready for the shot and beats it away well. Can Sunderland hang on?!

88 minSlow-motion replays show that Kone's goal might go down as a De Gea own goal as the Spaniard seemed to land on the ball and push it over, but for me the ball hadn't quite lost its momentum and might have crept over the line.

89 minUnited want a penalty as Memphis's volley is blocked by O'Shea, but that hit the Irishman's stomach. What a game he has had against his former club. He and Khazri are the main contenders for man of the match.

90+1 minThere will be FOUR minutes of added time!

90+4 minInto the final minute of added time and Sunderland have the ball in the United half as Van Aanholt shoots into the side-netting.

90+5 minFULL-TIME: SUNDERLAND 2-1 MAN UTD

2.41pmWhat a massive win that is for Sunderland, who move up to 18th and within a point of North-East rivals Newcastle, who face a tough trip to Chelsea later today. United stay fifth and they will drop to sixth if West Ham beat out-of-form Norwich today.

2.43pmThanks a lot for joining SM this afternoon. We have loads more live commentaries that you'll be able to find easily if you click back to the homepage so go on, tuck in!
