Benjamin Mendy: 'I wanted to join Manchester City as soon as season ended'

Benjamin Mendy says that he wanted to join Manchester City as soon as the season at AS Monaco finished.

Benjamin Mendy has revealed that he had his heart set on Manchester City as soon as the season ended in Monaco.

The left-back finalised his move to the Etihad Stadium on Monday in a deal thought to be worth £49.4m.

Mendy has insisted that he can easily adapt to manager Pep Guardiola's system and is confident of success at the North-West outfit.

"I think I am the right person for the group. I am easily adaptable," the 23-year-old Frenchman told the club's official website. "There are some players with whom I exchanged a few emails, [as] I knew them from some years ago.

"I can bring a lot of creativity in the game, I can offer different solutions, I like to take to play as full-back and provide assists for the strikers. I am very proud of joining Manchester City, this is what I wanted from the very beginning.

"As soon as the championship was over, I talked to my family and it was all clear in my head, I wanted to join Manchester City. I'm really happy about it. Since I was a kid it was a dream to play in the Premier League and I will do everything I can to enjoy every minute of it."

City's spending has surpassed £200m with the arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo and Mendy.
