David Silva back in contention for Manchester City

Manchester City attacking ace David Silva is in contention to feature in Saturday's Premier League clash against Stoke City after recovering from an ankle injury.

David Silva has been declared fit to play a part in Manchester City's Premier League meeting with Stoke City this weekend.

The Spaniard has been on the sidelines with an ankle injury of late, which has seen him miss successive games against Chelsea and Newcastle United.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini expects to have the attacking midfielder back in action on Saturday lunchtime, however, but Samir Nasri is unlikely to feature due to an injury problem of his own.

"Silva is fit and he's in the squad. I hope nothing will happen and there will be no problems," he told reporters. "Samir Nasri can't recover 100% from his muscle injury. Next game I hope he'll be okay. All of the rest of the squad is fit."

Ahead of the latest round of fixtures in the Premier League, two-time champions City are left looking over their shoulders at neighbours Manchester United who have closed to within two points.
