Jordan Henderson "very proud" to captain England

England midfielder Jordan Henderson has expressed his pride at having captained his country during the recent World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

Henderson, who captains Liverpool at club level, was handed the armband for England after usual skipper Wayne Rooney was dropped to the bench by interim boss Gareth Southgate.

The 26-year-old was disappointed with the team's performance during their 0-0 draw, but insists that it was still a proud moment in his career.

"I was very proud. But at the same time the focus was to keep doing what I've been doing for the team and concentrate on my role. I'm a bit disappointed with the game and that we didn't win," he told reporters.

Henderson became the 118th different player to captain England.
