Report: Atletico Madrid open talks with Liverpool over Christian Benteke

Atletico Madrid have reportedly opened talks with Liverpool regarding a summer transfer for Christian Benteke.

The Belgium international has struggled to make a mark for himself at Anfield having dropped to third-choice striker behind Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

Benteke was bought for £32m under former manager Brendan Rodgers's regime in July 2015, but the Northern Irishman's replacement Jurgen Klopp is reportedly prepared to sell.

According to Fichajes.net, Atletico have begun discussions over a move, and Liverpool are holding out for a bid in the region of €30m (£24.7m).

Benteke is currently with the Belgium squad at Euro 2016.
