Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka confirms that he held talks with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers regarding a possible move to the club in January.

The 24-year-old was close to making the switch to Anfield, but a last-minute transfer fell through.

Despite also being linked to Tottenham Hotspur, Konoplyanka has insisted that he is supporting the Merseyside outfit in the Premier League title race.

The winger told Ukrainian TV: "Liverpool are challenging for the league in England. I'm supporting them. I want them to win it.

"Yes, us and Rodgers talked a little bit to each other. The interest from Liverpool was very much serious. It was serious, but now I'm thinking of it only as a dream, because [Dnipro] are challenging for league."

Liverpool have the advantage in the title race after edging a 3-2 victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
