Jurgen Klopp refuses to discuss reports Liverpool want to sign Mario Gotze

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refuses to discuss rumours that the club are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to comment on speculation linking the club with a potential summer move for Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze.

It was reported earlier this week that Liverpool are serious contenders for Gotze's signature, with some publications claiming that the Merseyside club could secure a £15m deal for the German World Cup winner.

It is also believed that Gotze wants to reunite with Klopp, who coached the 23-year-old for four years while the pair were both at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Gotze has struggled to work his way back into the Bayern team this season as he has played in just one game since making his return to action in February following a groin injury.

According to ESPN, while in Germany Klopp was asked about the transfer rumours, but rather than discussing Gotze, the Liverpool boss wanted to speak about new signing Joel Matip.

"We can talk about Matip or something else, but not Mario," said Klopp. "I am happy that [Gotze] put in a good performance [for Germany] yesterday, but there is nothing to add from my side. He's a player with extraordinary abilities and wants to return to full fitness after four months on the sidelines."

Gotze joined Bayern from Dortmund in 2013.
