Daniel Sturridge strikes in 89th minute to give Liverpool a point

Everton and Liverpool draw 3-3 in a six-goal thriller at Goodison Park.

Everton and Liverpool shared the spoils in a pulsating 3-3 draw in the Merseyside derby this afternoon.

With just five minutes on the clock, Suarez flicked Steven Gerrard's corner into the path of Coutinho, who had time to take a touch before sweeping the ball past Tim Howard to give the away side an early lead.

However, Everton were level less than three minutes later. Leighton Baines swung a free kick deep into the Liverpool penalty area, where Ross Barkley prodded the ball in the direction of Kevin Mirallas, who escaped the attentions of Gerrard to smash it into the roof of the net.

The equaliser put the Goodison Park faithful in good voice, and only a last-minute intervention by Simon Mignolet prevented Romelu Lukaku from putting the Toffees ahead in the 11th minute.

Everton were only level for 10 minutes, as Suarez bent a 25-yard free kick around the outside of the wall and into the bottom corner of Howard's net to give Liverpool the lead once more.

At the other end, Barkley's inswinging cross-cum-shot from the left flank was tipped wide by a sprawling Mignolet as Everton looked to hit back immediately for a second time.

The 20-year-old then picked up a booking for a dive, and Mirallas also entered Phil Dowd's book for a high, late challenge which left Suarez with visible stud marks on his thigh as the first period ended with tempers beginning to flare.

Five minutes into the second half, Baines hobbled off to be replaced by Gerard Deulofeu, who fired straight at Mignolet when one-on-one seconds after his introduction.

Liverpool should have gone two goals ahead on the hour mark, but Joe Allen put the ball wide of the near post from six yards out after Suarez had bundled his way past two Everton defenders.

Mignolet then denied Lukaku twice in the space of five minutes as Everton pushed for an equaliser, but the striker eventually got the better of his international teammate in the 71st minute. Mignolet initially pushed Lukaku's deflected free kick away, but the hitman made no mistake when the ball was cut back to him from the left byline.

Lukaku put Everton ahead for the first time on the afternoon with eight minutes remaining when he rose highest to nod home from a corner, but Daniel Sturridge - on as a second-half substitute - flicked Gerrard's wide free kick into the far corner to rescue a point for the travelling Reds.
