Liverpool defender Joel Matip relishing his first appearance at Anfield

Liverpool defender Joel Matip says that he cannot wait to make his first appearance at Anfield following the stadium's redevelopment.

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has claimed that he is eagerly anticipating his first appearance at Anfield following the completion of the stadium's redevelopment.

Jurgen Klopp's team have had to play their first three Premier League games of the campaign away from home due to the expansion of the Main Stand.

They will return to their home this Saturday, though, when they welcome champions Leicester City.

"I've been waiting the whole pre-season to make my first steps at the stadium." the Liverpool Echo quotes Matip as saying.

"I think Liverpool is famous for its stadium, for its atmosphere. It will be a great atmosphere and I'll be happy when I can play there. To hear 'You'll Never Walk Alone' for the first time at the stadium will be a special moment and I will enjoy it."

Matip made his Liverpool debut in the Reds' 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on August 27.
