Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp responds to Daniel Sturridge's remarks about positioning

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that Daniel Sturridge does not have a "fixed position" after the striker admitted that he was unhappy playing out wide.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Daniel Sturridge's position is "flexible" after the striker admitted that he was unhappy playing out wide.

The England international was positioned on the right when he featured in the Reds' 2-0 defeat to Burnley, and he was handed the same role when he scored twice in a 5-0 rout over Burton Albion in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Klopp has responded to Sturridge's remarks this morning, claiming that there is fluidity in the forward's position.

"First of all, you have to think a little bit about why you ask things like this," Klopp told reporters in a press conference. "I don't want to play Daniel as a wide player, but he can play there. In the key moments he needs to be in the finishing position.

"But winger is not a fixed position, especially not in Daniel's case. We still have to work on a lot of things. I don't know exactly what he said but we have talks. It's not like you play there and say wait until something happens - it's flexible football."

Sturridge, who has had a spate of injury problems over the last few years, is likely to play a role in Saturday's league clash against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
