Joe Allen believes that Liverpool's performance against Sunderland is a "sign of things to come" at Anfield.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has insisted that manager Brendan Rodgers's style of play is beginning to take shape at Anfield.

The former Swansea City boss is yet to clinch a Premier League win with the Reds but Allen is confident that it is only a matter of time before Liverpool pick up the points after they showed what they are capable of in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Saturday.

"What we did against Sunderland, that's the idea of how the manager wants us to play," the Liverpool Daily Post quotes Allen as saying. "The idea is to control football matches and Liverpool should be doing that.

"The ability and quality in the team suggest we should be able to. That's the most positive and beneficial way of playing football and winning games.

"Sunderland was a good example of being courageous and coming away from home and controlling the match in terms of possession. It's a sign of things to come."

Meanwhile, the Merseyside side outfit take on Young Boys in the Europa League tonight.
