Maguire hopes to carry "momentum" into league

Harry Maguire is hopeful that Hull City can carry some "momentum" from their EFL Cup win over Bristol City into the Premier League.

Mike Phelan's men managed to grab a place in the quarter-finals of the competition with a 2-1 victory at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.

In the league, though, they have not tasted a win since August having recorded six defeats and one draw, which has left the club 18th in the table.

"We knew we needed a positive performance and a positive result against Bristol City and we got them," Maguire told the club's official website.

"Hopefully that can be the start of the bit of momentum that we need to take into the Premier League. We just needed to get that win under our belts and we have to take that to Watford on Saturday now.

"We played really well for the first 60 minutes on Tuesday night and there aren't many sides that go to Bristol City and get a win. The main objective for us is the league, though, and we want to stay in the Premier League for as long as we can."

Hull's next game is away to Watford on Saturday.
