Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner says that he is "delighted" to have seen his side overcome Newcastle United to maintain their perfect start to the season.

David Wagner has declared himself "delighted" with Huddersfield Town's performance in their 1-0 victory over Newcastle United, as they maintained their winning start to the season.

The Terriers have marked their return to the top flight of English football after a 45-year absence in style, adding to last weekend's triumph away to Crystal Palace by edging out the Magpies on home soil this afternoon.

Wagner was particularly pleased with the way that Huddersfield kept the opposition at bay, giving little away in the attacking third and earning the points through a brilliantly executed Aaron Mooy strike early in the second half.

"I am very happy and proud the players followed our idea to keep Newcastle as far away from our goal as possible," he told BBC Sport. "We gave no big chances away and our defence was very sharp.

"We had one magic moment from Mooy, enough to win the game. I am delighted with the performance and result. We got promoted at Wembley but we have started the season with two wins and six points. This is unbelievable. Everybody has invested so much and I am happy for them."

Huddersfield are the first newly-promoted side to win their opening two games of a Premier League season and the second to keep a clean sheet in both.
