France manager Didier Deschamps has claimed that he and his players failed to "rouse" the nation following their Euro 2016 final defeat to Portugal.
Les Bleus headed into the showdown at the Stade de France on Sunday night with the aim of lifting the nation following last November's deadly terror attacks in Paris.
Deschamps has claimed that they failed to do their job as the team lost 1-0 to Portugal late in extra time.
"We've missed a unique opportunity to win a Euros in our own country," The Telegraph quotes Deschamps as saying. "There are no words. The disappointment is there, and it's huge, and it will take time to digest it. But we won together, we suffer together and, today, we lost together.
"We so wanted to rouse the French people, and it would have been magnificent to bring the trophy home to them, but, unfortunately, that isn't going to be the case."
France have won the Euros twice, in 1984 and 2000.
