Roberto Martinez confident he is right man for Everton after FA Cup heartbreak

Roberto Martinez is certain that he is the right man to lead Everton after watching his side lose in the last minute of stoppage time to Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Roberto Martinez has insisted that he is the right manager for Everton after watching his side cruelly lose in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Everton, who have not won a trophy for 21 years, were heading for extra time against Manchester United at Wembley until Anthony Martial's 93rd-minute winner.

Martinez has been under increased pressure from Toffees supporters in recent weeks, but he is confident that he can be the man to lead the Merseyside club to the Champions League.

When asked if he was certain of being able to take Everton forward, Martinez told reporters. "I am. I've become so attached to Everton, and my ambition is exactly the same as the club's.

"I share the drive the club has, which is getting into the Champions League and situations where we can win silverware.

"I have a very strong drive and will give everything I have to fulfil those expectations."

Martinez believes that Everton have developed in his three years in charge, despite their haul of 41 points this season, the same number as newly-promoted duo Bournemouth and Watford.

The Spaniard added: "Every season we are developing and reaching certain signs where I feel we can please our fans and bring the silverware they deserve - but clearly, at moments like this of true disappointment, it is very difficult to see through that the real good things we have developed over the last three seasons."

Today's defeat comes after Everton were hammered 4-0 by Merseyside rivals Liverpool on Wednesday, making it seven Premier League games without a win.
