New Everton manager Ronald Koeman: 'I believe in the club'

Ronald Koeman says that he is "proud" to be named the new Everton manager and has belief that the club can improve in the Premier League.

Ronald Koeman has claimed that he feels "proud" to be appointed the new Everton manager.

The Dutchman, who has spent the last two seasons in charge of Southampton, has signed a three-year contract with the Merseyside outfit.

Koeman was in talks with the Saints over signing a new deal, but the 53-year-old is believed to have been lured to Goodison Park with the promise of a bulging transfer kitty.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright placed Koeman at the top of their wishlist when Roberto Martinez was sacked in the final week of the Premier League season.

After the appointment was announced, Koeman told the club's official website: "I am very excited to be Everton manager. I believe in the club, in the team, in the fans and in our ability to achieve things in the future.

"Everton is a club with a great history and real ambition and it is a proud feeling for me to be part of what we want to go and do, together with the chairman and Farhad Moshiri.

"I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the club and to preparing for a big season in the Premier League."

Everton finished 11th in the league last season, five places and 16 points adrift of Koeman's Southampton.
