Team News: Danny Drinkwater handed England debut

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater is handed his England debut for the friendly against Netherlands at Wembley.

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been handed his England debut for this evening's friendly against Netherlands at Wembley.

The 26-year-old has helped Leicester to the top of the Premier League table domestically this season, and is one of two Foxes to start the match, alongside Jamie Vardy.

Manager Roy Hodgson has made eight changes overall to the side that came from behind to beat Germany 3-2 in Berlin on Saturday, including bringing Fraser Forster in for the injured Jack Butland.

Chris Smalling, Danny Rose and Adam Lallana are the only players to retain their places, with Harry Kane and Eric Dier, who both scored against the world champions, among those to drop out.

There is also a first England start in 18 months for Daniel Sturridge up front, while his Liverpool teammate James Milner captains his country for the first time.

Netherlands boss Danny Blind has made six changes from the side that lost to France last time out, with Jeroen Zoet replacing the injured Jasper Cillessen between the sticks.

Manchester United duo Daley Blind and Memphis Depay have also been drafted in, along with Newcastle United's Georginio Wijnaldum and Stoke City's Ibrahim Afellay. The visitors' back four is unchanged.

England: Forster; Walker, Smalling, Stones, Rose; Drinkwater, Milner, Vardy, Barkley, Lallana; Sturridge
Subs: Clyne, Heaton, Walcott, Cahill, Jagielka, Henderson, Dier, Kane, Alli, Welbeck

Netherlands: Zoet; Veltman, Bruma, Blind, Willems; Wijnaldum, Bazoer, Afellay; Promes, Janssen, Depay
