Jamie Vardy disappointed by England defeat

England striker Jamie Vardy is disappointed by his side's 2-1 defeat to Netherlands, but admits that scoring his first international goal at Wembley was "unbelievable".

England striker Jamie Vardy has admitted that he feels bittersweet after his side's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Netherlands this evening.

The Leicester City man registered his first international goal at Wembley to give his side the lead, only for Vincent Janssen and Luciano Narsingh to hand the Dutch a come-from-behind victory.

Vardy acknowledged that scoring on home soil for his country is a high point of his remarkable season, but is also disappointed by the final result.

"It's an unbelievable feeling to score for England at Wembley but the result is disappointing," he told ITV Sport.

Vardy is expected to be part of Roy Hodgson's squad for Euro 2016 this summer, and he believes that club teammate Danny Drinkwater has enhanced his chances of joining him after being awarded man of the match on his debut this evening.

"I have got to carry on the way I have been playing in the league and we will have to what happens. Danny [Drinkwater] has done himself no harm at all," he added.

The defeat was just England's second since the 2014 World Cup and only the third they have suffered at Wembley under Roy Hodgson.
