Gareth Southgate 'not interested in England job'

Gareth Southgate, the favourite to succeed Roy Hodgson as England manager, is reportedly not keen on taking the job due to concerns over his future career.

Gareth Southgate is not interested in succeeding Roy Hodgson as England manager, according to reports.

The 45-year-old, who is currently in charge of the Under-21 side, was quickly installed as the favourite to take over from Hodgson after he resigned following England's ignominious exit from Euro 2016 at the hands of Iceland.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn hinted that they could look to appoint the former Middlesbrough boss on an interim basis while they search for a more permanent solution, but The Guardian reports that Southgate is worried about the impact taking on such a role will have on his career.

The report states that Southgate is concerned poor performances during any World Cup qualifiers he may take charge of would damage his reputation beyond repair, while even if he does well he is likely to have to make way for the FA's first choice.

A whole host of managers have been linked with the post, including the likes of Glenn Hoddle, Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klinsmann.
