Alan Pardew criticises supporters for Mark Hughes sack jibes

Alan Pardew explains why he told Crystal Palace supporters to stop taunting Stoke City boss Mark Hughes during the 4-1 win at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has admitted that the jibes from his own supporters aimed at under-fire Stoke City boss Mark Hughes were "not right".

The Welshman is under increasing pressure after seeing his side fall to a heavy 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Eagles on Sunday, making it just one point from five games so far this season.

Chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" went up around Selhurst Park when the win had long been sealed, which Pardew was quick to react to on the touchline as he told fans to stop.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the 55-year-old said: "This is an experienced manager with very, very good players. The media spotlight turns onto the manager when the results aren't good.

"Mark will deal with that. I have no concerns for him because he's terrific. He's having a bit of down time, but he'll be fine. I have heard those chants against me. I don't think it's right.

"[My] team knew what they were doing today. Our passing options, the shape of the team, the power of the team. Now we have to look to consistency. If we can have that level of performance again, we'll have a good season."

Stoke have now shipped four goals in games against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Palace in the opening weeks of the season, with their only point coming against Middlesbrough on the opening weekend.
