Chile defender Gonzalo Jara under investigation over finger incident

Chile's Gonzalo Jara could face retroactive punishment for apparently inserting his finger into Edinson Cavani's backside.

Chile defender Gonzalo Jara is under investigation following a bizarre incident that occurred during his side's 1-0 win over Uruguay in the Copa America.

Video footage suggests that the former West Bromwich Albion player attempted to antagonise Edinson Cavani by inserting his finger into the striker's backside.

Cavani was dismissed for his retaliation, but Jara escaped immediate punishment for his actions.

However, South American football's governing body Conmebol is now investigating the incident to establish whether retroactive disciplinary action is necessary, reports BBC Sport.

Chile reached the semi-finals of the competition as Mauricio Isla scored the only goal of the game.
