Basel coach Murat Yakin says that his side's win over Chelsea in the Champions League was "historic".

Basel coach Murat Yakin has expressed his delight at his side's "historic" win against Chelsea, after receiving praise from Jose Mourinho.

The Swiss side beat the Blues 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, and Yakin has talked up the magnitude of the result after beating them at Stamford Bridge earlier this season.

"To win twice against Chelsea is something historic, but we have now played four times against them and are therefore not awestruck," Yakin told reporters after the match.

"I'm very happy for the team and for all who witnessed it in the stadium. But that Mourinho has had to congratulate me twice is already something beautiful.

"It would have been undeserved had we not won or even lost, which can happen against an efficient Chelsea. The supporters pushed us over the 90 minutes to the end - they wanted us to win just as much as we did."

The win took Basel to within a point of Mourinho's side at the top of Group E.
