Chelsea fans fight football banning orders after Paris incident

Chelsea fans fight banning orders

Five Chelsea fans accused of being involved in a racist incident on the Paris Metro will fight applications to have football banning orders imposed on them, a court has heard.

Footage emerged last month of a group of men failing to let a black man board a train ahead of Chelsea's match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on February 17.

There were also chants of "we're racist, we're racist and that's the way we like it" from supporters. Chelsea were quick to condemn the actions of those involved.

The Metropolitan Police are trying to impose football banning orders on the quintet, who all appeared at Waltham Forest Magistrates' Court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

District Judge Mary Connolly, who said that the orders would severely restrict their civil liberties, adjourned the case until July 15 and 16.
