Sean Dyche: 'Joey Barton was fantastic at Burnley'

Burnley manager Sean Dyche says that Joey Barton was "fantastic" during his time at Turf Moor before he left the club for Rangers.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has revealed that he never had any issues with Joey Barton during the midfielder's spell at Turf Moor last season.

Barton has recently hit the headlines after being suspended by Rangers for three weeks after an altercation involving teammate Andy Halliday, but Dyche has praised the club's former player for how he conducted himself during their promotion campaign from the Championship.

The 45-year-old told reporters: "It's quite obviously private to Rangers, whatever has gone on. I can only give my opinion about my time with him and he was fantastic - on and off the field, inside the camp and outside the camp.

"But that's me, I can't speak for others or what's gone on since then. We're thankful for what he did here and I think he enjoyed what he did here and the group he was working with. But he's gone on to pastures new."

Dyche also suggested that he would not make any attempt to re-sign Barton should he be made available for transfer.
