Juventus held by Borussia Monchengladbach

Juventus are held to a goalless draw in their Champions League clash with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Massimiliano Allegri's side have endured a frustrating evening at the Juventus Stadium as an organised and hard-working Borussia Monchengladbach outfit held the Italians to a goalless draw.

The Serie A champions could have been ahead inside the opening two minutes when Mario Mandzukic came within inches of turning home Alvaro Morata's enticing ball.

However, the visitors weren't happy to simply sit back and defend and could have broken the deadlock early on themselves had Leonardo Bonucci not been on hand to turn away Fabian Johnson's cross.

Juan Cuadrado, Paul Pogba and Morata all went close with strikes from range, but Juventus failed to make much of an inroad into Andre Schubert's well drilled defence in the first half.

That was until Morata capitalised on a defensive mistake in the dying minutes of the opening period, only to be hauled down by Alvaro Dominguez, but despite the Monchengladbach defender appearing to be the last man, referee Craig Thomson only booked Dominguez.

With the game remaining 11-a-side, Juventus continued to pile the pressure on, albeit from a distance as Pogba's 25-yard strike was palmed away by Yann Sommer after the restart.

The lively Pogba then saw his free kick pushed clear by Sommer, before the hosts threw on Roberto Pereyra, Simone Zaza and Paulo Dybala in a bid to steal the win, but the Germans held on for a deserved point.

The result leaves Juventus top of Group D with seven points from their opening three games and extends their run of unbeaten home games in UEFA competition to 15 matches.
