Ashley Cole 'open to Birmingham City move'

Los Angeles Galaxy defender Ashley Cole is reportedly open to joining Championship outfit Birmingham City this summer.

Ashley Cole is reportedly open to joining Birmingham City in this summer's transfer window.

The former England international will see his contract with Los Angeles Galaxy expire later this year, and Birmingham have been credited with an interest in the experienced left-back.

Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp, meanwhile, claimed at the weekend that Cole "could certainly play at this level" when asked whether he was interested in bringing the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender to the Championship.

According to Sky Sports News, Cole would consider a move to Birmingham this summer, and is prepared to meet with Redknapp to discuss the possibility of returning to English football.

The 36-year-old, who made 107 appearances for England between 2001 and 2014, joined LA Galaxy from Roma in 2014, and was a part of the team that suffered a 5-2 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday night.
