Win over Israel will send Belgium top of FIFA rankings

A victory over Israel would move Belgium above Argentina and Germany and into first place in the FIFA rankings.

Belgium will replace Argentina at the top of FIFA's world rankings if they beat Israel in the Euro 2016 qualifier between the two nations in Brussels this evening.

The Red Devils are currently in third place behind the Argentines and Germany, but with both of those having lost in recent outings, it has provided Marc Wilmots's side with the opportunity to claim first position for the first time in their history.

Victory over the Israelis would put Belgium on 1440 ranking points, while Argentina can only score 1429, even if they beat Paraguay later today.

As for world champions Germany, their 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Republic of Ireland has left them on 1388.

In 2009, Belgium, who have already qualified for next year's Euros in France, were ranked as low as 66th.
