Bayern Munich cruised into the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal with a thumping 5-0 win away to Hamburger SV on Wednesday night.

In the first half, the holders scored two goals inside five minutes with Mario Mandzukic tapping in before a Dante header squeezed over the line.

Bayern were rampant after the break, with Mandzukic completing his hat-trick to add to an effort from Dutch winger Arjen Robben.

Good evening German football fans. The DFB-Pokal continues tonight and this time we have the holders Bayern Munich in action against Hamburger SV. On paper, this could be a very interesting clash indeed.

Bert van Marwijk was only appointed as head coach earlier this season but despite a strong start to his tenure his team are in big trouble. They are in real danger of a relegation scrap and currently sit 17th after six straight defeats. His future has been discussed at board level and while a cup defeat may not see the end of him, a thrashing will not go down well.

Pep Guardiola of Bayern has no such worries. His team took a little while to get in the swing of his preferred style of play - namely the one anchor in midfield instead of two. His side are in imperious form and taking into account both teams' current runs it's hard to look beyond the Bavarian side today.

Of course, in the cup you never know. And especially as in other leagues coaches use it as a chance to rest players. With fewer games in the Bundesliga and a short run to the final, that's less common in Germany. Let's see who does play, then, the teams are in.

HAMBURG XI: Adler; Lam, Tah, Westermann, Jansen; Badelj, Rincon; Ilicevic, van der Vaart, John; Calhanoglu

BAYERN XI: Neuer; Rafinha, Boateng, Dante, Alaba; Lahm; Kroos, Thiago, Gotze, Robben, Mandzukic

So as you can see, there aren't many players rested tonight. Interestingly, Van Marwijk has gone for a false nine with Hakan Calhanoglu up front. For Bayern, Mandzukic remains up front ahead of Toni Kroos in the middle. Kroos and Thiago will be key tonight in the absence of Thomas Muller from the XI.

There is only one genuine winger in that Bayern lineup, which means we will see a lot of passing and moving in the middle. Robben will start on the right, with his three midfield partners likely to rotate at will. With a proper forward in Mandzukic they are more dangerous as the defence must stay alert.

Just five minutes left until kickoff. Looking at those two teams it makes it even harder to look beyond Bayern. Obviously it's near full-strength from both teams, but Hamburg's best chance was always likely to be if Guardiola gave more of his first team a night off.

Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart has not been the player he was last season so far. There were times last term he almost single-handedly took control of games but, for whatever reason, since his injury he has yet to hit those heights. He'd certainly love to hit form against Bayern, though.

KICKOFF: here we go then. We're underway!

Bayern immediately in control of the possession here, but they have not created a chance as yet. The ball is played in to Robben in the box, but he cannot turn and Hamburg clear.

There is a lot of noise from the home fans and many a large flag being waved. On the pitch their team have not done anything yet, but they are keeping things tight early on.

Gotze is almost in on the right side of the box as Boateng plays it over the top. However, the ball is won by Tah and put behind for a corner. That goes out for another and a bit of pressure is building.

The battle is in the midfield at the moment and neither side is particularly on top. Badelj is tacking well, but that said he has just given away a free kick against Thiago.

Hamburg are allowing BAyern to have the ball in their own half, but are pressing quickly as soon as the away side get over the line. So far it has worked as there hasn't been a shot at goal from Bayern.

It hasn't been very good so far, it is fair to say. From Hamburg's point of view they have obviously intended to be hard to break down, but Bayern will want to create a lot more than they have.

Still Bayern press and probe but still they cannot create any space. Hamburg are playing as if they have no intention of attacking at the moment.

GOAL! Hamburg 0-1 Bayern (Mario Mandzukic)

As I say that... there's as easy a goal as you are likely to see. Gotze does well on the left to beat his man and get to the byline and incredibly when he looks up Mandzukic is standing there in yards of space. He, of course, tucks it into the empty net.

Hamburg are still struggling to get any possession. Bayern are starting to ramp it up as Alaba gets in down the left but sees his cross defelcted behind for a corner.

GOAL! Hamburg 0-2 Bayern (Dante)

Well that could be it already! Dante wins the header from Kroos's corner and it manages to squeeze beyond Adler's dive and past Calhanoglu on the line. I think the forward could have done better there - it was hardly in the corner.

Hamburg respond with their first shot, as John cuts on to his left foot but puts his effort straight at Neuer. Difficult chance.

Robben is being doubled up on every time he gets the ball. He's forced back this time and Bayern look to come again from the defence. It's all too easy for the visitors with no pressing whatsoever.

It's still the same old story at the moment. Lots of passing from Bayern, lots of standing around from the hosts.

Chance there for Lahm! He roamed all the way into the box but just stumbled as he took the ball back from Mandzukic in a one-two. The movement is just brilliant at times.

Lahm has a shot this time, but it was from some 30 yards and it didn't beat his man. There's a lot of frustration from the home players at the moment as Van der Vaart gives away a free kick.

HAMBURG SUB: That's Van der Vaart's last action of the game, too. He's taken a knock and makes way for Tolgay Arslan.

CHANCE! Really good opening for Robben there. The ball is passed neatly and then Gotze finds Robben on the edge of the box, but the Dutchman shoots weakly straight at the keeper.

HALF-TIME: Hamburg 0-2 Bayern

As Bayern continue to dominate the passing, the referee blows the half-time whistle with no time added. Bayern are ahead and are in control.

Hamburg have been frankly appalling. Neuer has had one save to make that I remember, and even then it was barely even a half-chance. They are sitting too deep and are playing right into Bayern's hands.

It's been interesting, because Bayern haven't exactly peppered the goal with shots, but they have remained patient and taken their chances. The first goal was as easy a goal as Mandzukic will ever score, for example.

Not too long now until the resumption. If nothing changes from the hosts then this will be a comfortable passage into the semis for Bayern.

The players are heading back out to the pitch then. I'll let you know of any changes.

Here we go. The hosts get us back underway for the second half.

Bit better to begin with for Hamburg, who are not pressing much higher up the pitch. They have a huge challenge ahead to get back in this, but that is the way to go about it.

BAYERN SUB: Boateng makes way for Javi Martinez. Interesting move that, I assume Martinez will play as a centre-back, then.

Bayern are in no rush to grab a third goal here. They do up the pace when there's space to run into, but of course it's up to the hosts to do the presing here.

GOAL! Hamburg 0-3 Bayern (Arjen Robben)

That is an excellent finish from Robben. The ball is played high into the box and he chests it down before slotting into the bottom corner. This is well and truly over.

Could this be Van Marwijk's last game in charge? A cup defeat to the mighty Bayern is hardly the worst result, but his side are absolutely dire at the moment!

There definitely looks to be only one side in this at the moment. Bayern are playing a spot of attack vs. defence in training. However, Hamburg break and Ilicevic shoots, but it was from 25 yards and easy for Neuer.

Slip from Dante there at the back, but there were no home players near enough to him to take advantage of it. That was about as much trouble as the Brazilian has been in all night and it was all the pitch's doing.

What calm defending from Dante there! There's some pressure Hamburg but once Bayern when it back the centre-back dummied in his own box to take two players out of the game. John is narrowly offside as he latched on to a ball over the top. Change for Bayern as Xherdan Shaqiri is on for Thiago and Lahm makes way for vice skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger. His return is cheered by the away fans.

CHANCE! Mandzukic has an effort with his head from a deep cross by Rafinha. However, the striker was stretching a bit and it was an easy save in the end for Adler.

CLOSE! Great, confident effort there from Kroos! Mandzukic rises to chest back to the midfielder, who hits it on the half-volley with his weaker left foot, but it goes wide. It had the power but not quite the accuracy.

Badelj is down after going in for a tackle with Schweinsteiger. The German did nothing wrong and I think Badelj rolled his ankle on the pitch. Meanwhile, Jacques Zoua is on for Calhanoglu.

GOAL! Hamburg 0-4 Bayern (Mandzukic)

It's another simple goal from the striker, and Gotze again deserves all the credit. He broke clear in the box before dinking over the advancing Adler for Mandzukic to tap in almost on the goalline.

GOAL! Hamburg 0-5 Bayern (Mario Mandzukic)

And just like that, Mandzukic has a hat trick. A free kick came in from Alaba and Hamburg could not clear, before Mandzukic turn and fired in from close range. A real striker's hat-trick, that.

Bayern are completely rampant and the most worrying thing is the ease in which they have ripped apart Hamburg tonight. They've been dominant, but it hasn't been chance after chance, just patience and clinical finishing. Brilliant stuff.

Can they get more? They're certainly going for it and the away fans are baying for blood. Or perhaps it's the home fans who want the blood of Van Marwijk, whose days are well and truly numbered.

Good chance for a cross there from Alaba. Kroos clips over the top to him but he just takes too much time and his effort is deflected behind. In fairness there weren't many busting a gut to get on the end of it.

Bayern still playing lovely, intricate football in the middle of the park. Their tempo never changes whether they're 1-0 down or 5-0 up as they find themselves tonight.

BOOKING: Late caard for Thomas Rincon, who held back Schweinsteiger. That's slightly harsh perhaps, but it was a needless foul.

FULL-TIME: Hamburg 0-5 Bayern Munich

That's about as comfortable a quarter-final as you're ever likely to see! Bayern completely destroy Hamburg and go into the hat for the semis.

Thanks for joining me tonight. We're back with the Bundesliga action over the weekend, so please do join us then. Goodbye.
