Nico-Jan Hoogma, the sporting director of the Dutch Football Federation, acknowledges that Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is keen on managing Barcelona in the future.

Nico-Jan Hoogma, the sporting director of the Dutch Football Federation, has revealed that Ronald Koeman could leave his role as Netherlands boss after Euro 2020.

The former defender has transformed his nation since his appointment in February 2018, recording 10 wins and four draws from his 18 matches in charge.

However, Hoogma has acknowledged that the 56-year-old eventually wants to return to club management, with taking charge of Barcelona in the future one of his priorities.

When quizzed on Koeman's release clause becoming active in 2020, Hoogma told Fox Sports: "Agreements were reached in this regard, but teams would have to pay to do so.

"The success of the Dutch national team can help him, but I hope we finish this process and work together until the World Cup in Qatar."

Hoogma added: "Ronald has always indicated that he wants to be a coach at Barcelona one day. We'll see what happens."

Koeman guided the Netherlands to the UEFA Nations League final in June, where they lost 1-0 to tournament hosts Portugal.
