How Atletico Madrid could line up against Real Madrid

Sports Mole looks at how Atletico Madrid could line up in Saturday night's La Liga clash with Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid will be looking for their first home La Liga win over Real Madrid since February 2015 when they welcome their bitter rivals to the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night.

Diego Simeone's side thumped Los Blancos 7-3 during their preparations for the 2019-20 campaign but are without a league victory over their derby opponents since February 2016.

Atletico have taken 13 points from their six league matches this season to sit second in the table - one point behind Real Madrid ahead of this weekend's mouthwatering contest.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the home side could line up on Saturday night.

POSS ATL XI vs. RMA

Out: Alvaro Morata (suspension), Sime Vrsaljko (knee), Thomas Lemar (hamstring)

Atletico will be without the services of Alvaro Morata after the striker picked up a red card during the 2-0 win over Mallorca on Wednesday night. The 26-year-old only returned from a knee injury against Celta Vigo on September 21 but is now unavailable once again.

As a result, Diego Costa and Joao Felix are likely to continue as the front two in a 4-4-2 formation, while former Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier will return having been rested for the victory over Mallorca.

Thomas Lemar's hamstring injury is expected to see Vitolo feature in a wide position, with Saul Niguez, Koke and Thomas Partey making up the midfield.

That said, Marcos Llorente came off the bench during Wednesday's clash with Mallorca and will be desperate to face his former club, while Hector Herrera is another option in the middle of the park.

There are not expected to be any surprises in a defensive area with Stefan Savic and Jose Gimenez lining up at the heart of the back four, which should also again include Renan Lodi at left-back.
