Remi Garde: 'Aston Villa can still remain in Premier League'

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde says that his side can still avoid relegation from the Premier League, despite sitting nine points adrift of safety.

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has said that he is trying to take inspiration from Leicester City as he looks to guide the club to Premier League survival.

Last season, Leicester won seven of their last nine games to move from bottom of the standings to safety, and with a nine-point deficit, Villa will have to produce something similar in order to avoid relegation to the Championship.

With just 16 points from 29 fixtures, it looks unlikely, but Garde has insisted that his team are capable of stringing together a run of form during the final two months of the campaign.

The 49-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "We can survive. If you look at Leicester last season they started to win now - won seven, drew one and lost one. Why can't we do that?

"We have shown very poor football in previous games but in football you never know how things can go."

Villa host title-challenging Tottenham Hotspur in the West Midlands on Sunday afternoon.
