Arsene Wenger: 'We will not spend massively'

Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal cannot afford to spend huge amounts of money on new players this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned that the club cannot afford to spend huge amounts of money on new players this summer.

The Gunners, who won their second successive FA Cup with a 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa on Saturday, are expected to be active in the transfer window as they mount a challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Wenger says that he will be looking to make additions to his squad, but only within the club's budgets.

When asked if he would be chasing the likes of Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale this summer, the Arsenal boss told Goal.com: "We have not spent that kind of money. People forget that for years we had to sell our best players and that was a very difficult period. That is the reality.

"Since we started to buy again, we have slowly come back to a more competitive level. But you speak maybe about stratospheric numbers where we will not be involved.

"Not at that level. It's simple. I do not want to tell you how much money we have. But I have not made a clear decision yet for what I will do. Don't rule anything out and I will not tell you as well how much money we will spend. But I'm always more focused on quality."

Arsenal finished third in the league this term.
