Wenger 'turned down by Antoine Griezmann'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Atletico Madrid frontman Antoine Griezmann during this summer's Euro 2016 tournament in France, according to a report.

The long-serving Gunners manager was back in his homeland working as a commentator and made the most of the opportunity by approaching his countryman with an offer to move to the Emirates.

The 25-year-old is thought to have spurned his advances, however, by insisting that he and his family were settled in the Spanish capital and had no desire to move.

"Arsene and Griezmann held talks during the Euros about his situation," a source told The Sun. "The player told him outright that he was happy in Spain, and his family were enjoying life there.

"There is still interest. Why wouldn't there be in one of the best players in the world? But nothing will happen this summer at least."

Wenger has since gone on to sign Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez.
