Arsenal to step up Mauro Icardi pursuit?

Arsenal will reportedly make an approach for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi should they fall short with their attempt to sign Alexandre Lacazette.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is said to have made the Lyon frontman his top target this summer, having openly admitted that a new attacking player is needed at the Emirates Stadium.

The Sun reports that Arsenal have already had one bid of around £35m rejected for Lacazette, and could now turn to Icardi should they decide that an increased offer is not worth the effort.

Inter's leading man, also rumoured to be wanted by Napoli after the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus last week, is rated by Inter - who are reluctant to sell - at the £50m mark.

Icardi has scored 47 times in 91 appearances for the Nerazzurri in Serie A, while also impressing in a previous spell at Sampdoria.
