Wes Morgan backs Jamie Vardy's decision to snub Arsenal

Wes Morgan insists that there was "no reason" for Jamie Vardy to swap title winners Leicester City for Arsenal this summer.

Leicester City skipper Wes Morgan has claimed that Arsenal had little chance of signing Jamie Vardy this summer.

The England international decided against a £20m move to the Gunners and instead committed his future to the reigning Premier League champions.

Morgan is confident that Vardy's decision will prove to be the correct one in the long term, while also backing his teammates to follow the striker's lead in sticking with Leicester.

"It's to be expected that teams are going to be interested in him, but he has committed himself to Leicester now and it's great for the fans, the players and the club," he told The Mirror. "He has proved himself on the big stage and, no doubt, he can do that again because he's much more confident now.

"Even on the international stage with England, he has been a threat straight away. And, at Leicester, he's proved himself. We are the defending champions - there's no reason for him to leave."

Leicester, who beat Celtic on penalties in their opening International Champions Cup clash on Saturday evening, begin their title defence away at Hull City next month.
