Anzhi Makhachkala reportedly decide to sack new coach Rene Meulensteen just 16 days into his first managerial post with the Russian giants.

Rene Meulensteen will reportedly lose his job as Anzhi Makhachkala manager in the next 24 hours, just 16 days after taking charge of the Russian side.

Meulensteen replaced Guus Hiddink in his first managerial post at Anzhi last month after deciding not to work under new Manchester United boss David Moyes at Old Trafford.

Anzhi have failed to win any of their first four matches in the Russian league, despite spending more than £50m during the off-season on players including Aleksandr Kokorin, Igor Denisov and Christopher Samba.

As a result, owner Suleiman Kerimov has decided to change the focus at Anzhi and work with a younger side, sacking Meulensteen and putting the whole first-team squad up for sale.

Haji Hajiyev will be confirmed as interim coach tomorrow as Kerimov weighs up what do with the club after suffering from poor recent health, according to Sport Express Russia.
