Olympic skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold was runner-up, while European gold medallist Jo Pavey finished third in the voting behind Dujardin, who was recognised for winning two individual gold medals and a team silver at this summer's world equestrian games in Caen.

"I would like to thank all my fans and my whole backroom team. People like Carl Hester and many others who have helped me to get to where I am today," the 29-year-old revealed via a video link.

"I have had an incredible four years in my sport – what I have achieved is unbelievable."
