Tom Daley, Daniel Goodfellow through to World Cup final

Tom Daley and new diving partner Daniel Goodfellow finish fifth in the prelims to qualify for the 10m final at the Diving World Cup in Rio.

Tom Daley and new diving partner Daniel Goodfellow have progressed safely through to the final of the 10m synchro at the Diving World Cup.

The pair, who have only been competing together for a few months, posted a respectable total of 411.00 across six dives in the preliminary session on Saturday morning in Rio de Janeiro.

Their routine included an impressive score of 86.58 for their forward 4-1/2 in the penultimate round and they could have finished higher than fifth overall were it not for their final dive - the back 3-1/2 pike - which scored an underwhelming 62.64.

Germany's Patrick Hausding, who last night claimed gold in the 3m synchro, and Sascha Klein finished first in the prelims with four solid 80-plus dives taking them to a total of 433.50.

Mexican pair Ivan Garcia and German Sanchez had to make do with seventh after being betrayed by their reverse 3-1/2 tuck in the penultimate round, while China's Chen Aisen and Lin Yue had a session-best score of 90.72 for their back 2-1/2 with 2-1/2 twists.

The home nation were the only team not to make it through to tomorrow's final, with Jackson Rondinelli and Hugo Parisi finishing 13th with a total of 347.43.
