Georgia Ward finishes eighth in Rio

Young Team GB diver Georgia Ward manages a respectable eighth-place finish in the 10m platform at the Diving World Cup.

Young British diver Georgia Ward has managed a respectable eighth-place finish in the women's 10m platform event at the Diving World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.

Competing in her first world-level event, Ward had previously secured an Olympics quota place for Team GB in the 10m thanks to a strong showing in the preliminary stage.

China's Ren Qian dominated proceedings in the rain-delayed final on Sunday night, her overall score of 454.65 nearly 42 points ahead of nearest challenger, compatriot Si Yajie.

Ward's overall tally of 321.00 included an impressive 72.00 for her complex third dive in the routine, an armstand back with 2 somersaults and 1-1/2 twists.

Australia's Melissa Wu took the final podium spot with a total of 380.50.
