Day one of the third Test belonged to Pakistan as they sent England packing for 297 at Edgbaston.
Earlier this week, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur revealed that the team tweaked their plan in order to subdue the threat of Joe Root and Alastair Cook, and they managed to do just that.
Root managed to hit just three runs before edging to Sohail Khan off Sarfraz Ahmed's delivery, while Cook was trapped lbw by Rahat Ali after scoring 45 runs off 52 balls.
Cook reviewed the call, but it was to no avail as Rahat, who found the captain's edge twice in his first two overs, finally got his man.
Gary Ballance managed to steady the ship with a knock of 70 before getting dismissed by Yasir Shah, while his fellow batsmen Alex Hales (17), James Vince (39) and Jonny Bairstow (12) all fell.
Pakistan controlled the majority of play on the field, with Khan taking five wickets, Rahat two, Mohammad Amir two and Shah one.
Moeen Ali tried to swing the momentum in England's direction with a half-century, but he was taken out on 63 runs by Amir.
Only three England players surpassed 40 runs.
