James Vince, Jake Ball get maiden England Test call-ups

Uncapped James Vince and Jake Ball are both named in England's 12-man squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka at Headingley.

England have named their 12-man squad for the upcoming first Test against Sri Lanka at Headingley, with James Vince and Jake Ball earning maiden call-ups.

Hampshire batsman Vince appears set to take the place of James Taylor at number five after the latter was recently forced to retire because of a serious heart condition.

Nottinghamshire seamer Ball, meanwhile, will battle Steven Finn for the third seamer's role, but is likely to be the 12th man.

National selector James Whitaker told the ECB's website: "Both Jake Ball and James Vince thoroughly deserve their opportunity having performed well with the England Lions and starting the season in good form with their respective counties."

The Test, which is the first of three against Sri Lanka, gets underway in Leeds on May 19.

England squad to face Sri Lanka: Alastair Cook, Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Jake Ball, Stuart Broad, Nick Compton, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Vince
