James Vince rejects Indian Premier League opportunity

James Vince turns down the chance to play in the Indian Premier League in a bid to force his way into the England Test team.

James Vince has declined the invitation to take part in this weekend's Indian Premier League player auction.

There had been suggestions that the 24-year-old batsman was going to be involved in the Twenty20 tournament, which gets underway in April.

However, Vince has instead opted to concentrate on his commitments with Hampshire, as well as trying to force his way into the England Test team.

"I think James can see what is ahead of him right now," Hampshire's director of cricket Giles White told the club's official website.

"He is very much in the space that he wants to play Test cricket and going into the IPL at this time might narrow that opportunity. Runs early season with Hampshire will push his case and that's his goal right now."

The right-hander has been on tour with the England Lions this winter.
